Chapter One, Shades of Blue
Ghost Town in the Sky
May 1, 1963
Dear Livy Two,
Here is ten dollars. It’s all I got this week. Uncle Buddy “borrowed" the rest of my paycheck to pay his poker debts but aims to pay me back. WARNING: DO NOT blab to Mama or Grandma Horace about poker. Guess what? We saw this Alfred Hitchcock movie called “THE BIRDS," over in Asheville with a bunch of Ghost Town folks, but it scared Uncle Buddy so bad he had to step outside to smoke a cigarette in the middle. Now he watches the sky for killer birds.
Daddy back home yet?
Love, your brother, Emmett
